2013 Summer Bike Trip – Day 2

We were all up by 6:30 and preparing for the day which included breakfast at the hotel and planning the day’s ride.  We also took the bikes to wash the lime off them from yesterday’s ride, which took us past a lime mine.  After we washed the bikes we thought we would try out the cyclone dryer to dry them off.  We parked a couple of bikes under the dryer and turned it on.  It only dried a little stripe on the bikes, so we hopped on them and pushed them back and forth under the dryers.  Kevin was blocking my left dryer and I was blocking Kevin’s right dryer, so we put another dollar in and rode the bikes through while the cyclone did it’s work.  It was pretty entertaining watching us struggle pushing the bikes back and forth under these dryers.  Not the brightest idea of the morning, but the motorcycles looked a lot better after we were done.

We headed out on KY 18 and caught 338 near the ohio river to the east of Florence, KY.  We then caught 42 South and then 421 and followed that in to Frankfort.  On our way, we had to stop several times as it seems people around there like to train their dogs to stray into the roads and try to cause accidents.  We ran into some very wet roads, but managed to stay out of the rain.  We then headed to the Wild Turkey Distillery and to take the tour and taste testing.  We happened to be inside when the rain finally caught us and we managed to stay dry even though the motorcycles didn’t.

After drying the bikes off we headed towards Lexington and checked into the Courtyard by Marriott.  We passed this cool looking castle that Deb was able to take a picture of as we passed it.

After unloading the bikes we headed downtown to eat at a place recommended to us by the Courtyard staff.  The place was called DeSha’s and it was a very good dinner.  We got out of town just before they started the Midsummer Nights Run in downtown Lexington and shut the entire city down.  We got back to the hotel and hopped in the hot tub and pool and had some beverages and talked in the courtyard before showering and turning in for the night.

It was a nice ride today overall and was a good ride.  We have about 450 miles in on this trip and it’s probably one of the shortest trips we have done milage wise, but I don’t think we ever topped 55 mph today.

Tomorrow morning we are heading home and I get to see my wife and kids and catch up with them on the fun they had this weekend as well.  I look forward to seeing them and miss them.
