Jonny asked a friend, Destiny, to the Homecoming Dance which was held on September 27th. Nikki took him shopping last week to get some nice clothes for the growing boy to wear to the dance.
Nikki took them to the dance, which they stayed for about an hour and then she drove them into town where they meet some other friends for dinner at Brews Cafe. After Brews they went to the bowling alley and had a good time with a group of about 6 people.
Today Jonny ran in the Bob Reall Lancaster Invitational located at the Lancaster High School and neighboring Ohio University Lancaster Campus. It’s one of the courses that has a number of rolling hills and the athletes cross a few bridges. Jonny ran in the Division II Boys Varsity race which started at 2:00. The temps were in the upper 70’s, humid and partly cloudy.
Jonny finished 2nd again overall on the team and 15th out of 174 runners in the Division II Varsity Race with a time of 17:12.9 which is 1:52 seconds faster than last years time of 19:04. He said he felt uncomfortable through most of the race, but held in there very well and competed to the finish.
Today Jonny ran at the Galion Cross Country Festival at Amanns Park just south of Galion Ohio. The weather was cool today with temps in the upper 50’s at the 1:30pm race time for Division II Boys Varsity race. Last Year Jonny ran the race in 18:09 and finished 60th out of 136 runners.
He stayed near the front of the pack throughout the race and finished 14th out of 184 runners with a new person best time of 16:33.9. He finished 2nd on the team and earned the team 14 points. Granville was 2nd place with 100 points, 1st place Lexington had 73 points and 3rd place, Bay, had 137 points in comparison.
This year at Galion on the same course he was able to shave 1:36 off his time from last year.
Jonny ran at the McGowan Invitational today held at Watkins High School in Pataskala. The weather today was partly cloudy with the temperature at 79 degrees and 82% humidity. They run all the boys together, both varsity and open, there are 291 kids running in one race.
Jonny got off to a good start and made sure he was in a good position before they entered the woods where the path narrows and there are limited places to pass if you are in a large group. He kept himself in a good position throughout the race and ended up 17th overall out of 291 racers. He finished 3rd for the team with a time 17:12, which helped his team take first place out of 24 total teams.
I did take some video of Jonny running which can be seen below.
Jonny finished this race last year at 18:24, so he was able to improve his time by 1:12. He ran at the Licking County League Championship on this same course last year as well and finished in 18:00, so he also beat that time by 0:48.
Also, to give you a better idea on how well Jonny ran, there were several divisions that raced at Watkins today. There were 1,217 high school boys that raced. If they all would have raced together Jonny would have finished 57th out of 1,217 runners.
