Ohio State Univeristy High School Qualifier #2

Jonny’s second Indoor Track meet, like the first one last week, was also held at the French Field House at Ohio State located in Columbus, Ohio on January 23rd, 2016.

This week Jonny ran in the 1600 Meter Run and the 400 Meter Run.  Jonny ran in the first heat of the 1600 meter run in 4:34.21 which was good enough for 5th place overall.  I did take some video of that run and here it is.

Jonny also ran the 400 meter run about 45 minutes after competing in the mile.  He ran in the 3rd heat.  It’s funny watching our distance guys run in the 400 meter races.  In Jonny’s race he was the only one who didn’t start with blocks.  I heard of couple of people sitting around me pointing it out just before the race started.  Jonny ended up 2nd in his heat and 10th overall out 57 runners.  After the race I heard those same people sound surprised that Jonny ended up in 2nd ahead of their boys.  Jonny finished in 54.41.  Here is the video I took from that race.

The official results can be found at FinishTiming.com.  You can also find the results at the Granville Aces Track and Field Reporting Tool.

Ashley adds a new member to the family

Ashley and Shane added a new member to the family today.  She rescued a little dog to help keep Apollo entertained.  She picked him up from the Licking County Animal Shelter.  She named him Thor and he is very active and friendly.  He thinks everyone is his friend and he and Apollo get along very well.

Ohio State University High School Qualifier #1

Jonny started the season running in the Ohio State University HS Qualifier #1, held at the French Field House at OSU on January 16th, 2016.

He was only scheduled for one event today the 4×800 meter relay.  The team took 6th place overall out of 22 teams with a team time of 8:57.56.  Jonny ran the third leg and ran most of the race alone as he was about 85 meters behind the team in front of him.  He finally caught up to the 3 teams in front of him and passed 2 of those teams last 200 meters.  His split time was 2:08.4.

I did not get a chance to get any video of this race as my batteries to the camera where dead.  I will have video from next week though.  I promise.

The official results can be found at FinishTiming.com, or on the Granville Aces Track and Field Reporting Tool.

Back Health Issues

I have been having sciatica issues since the beginning of November.  I have went to the doctor several time.  We have tried stretching exercises and anti-inflammatory prescription medications.  I finally had an X-Ray that revealed some spurs protruding from my spine, so my doctor approved an MRI.  The MRI showed spurs resulting from a ruptured disc on L4-L5 along with heavy arthritis and narrowing of the spinal column.  From that we made an appointment to see a neurosurgeon, which is now scheduled for February 1st.  They may recommend surgery or still recommend that I try a nerve blocker.  I just want to get me fixed so I can function again and start exercising again.
