Les Eisenhart Cross Country Invitational – October 10, 2015

Jonny competed in the Les Eisenhart Cross Country Invitational today.  This has typically been one of the fastest courses Granville participates in every year.  The kids times normally reflect a fast course with competition that is going to push you to be your best.  This year was no different.

The event is so big that they divide the high school open races up to freshman and sophomores in one open race and juniors and seniors in another race.  There were a total of 811 high school boys running today.  Of those 811 boys Jonny finished 16th overall.  He finished 16th in his varsity race with 211 competitors.  He got off to a very good start to get ahead of the group in the tight spots as a seasoned runner in this race had taught him in the past.  He ran a great race and he was able to break his previous record by 13 seconds with a new personal best of 16:10 over the 5K course.

The official score sheet can be found here: http://www.baumspage.com/cc/eisenhart/2015/Eisenhart High School Boys Varsity Race.pdf

The video I took from the race is here:

Saturday Night Lights at Centerville

Jonny did not participate in the meet up in Gallion last week. This week the team was supposed to be in Lancaster for a meet, but the varsity runners qualified for a big meet over in Centerville, just south of Dayton. This is an unusual cross country meet as the race is held at night. The boys don’t run until 9:45 at night. The girls ran at 9:15.  The weather was a cool 63 degrees and windy.  The boys race it started to drizzle.

Jonny got himself a good start to avoid the first bottleneck at about the 600 meter mark.  The first mile mark Jonny, Joe and Tyler were all together at 5:03 into the race.  Jonny was 17th.  At the 2nd mile mark the three boys were in sight of each other with Joe at 10:22,  Jonny at 10:26 and Tyler at 10:32.  Jonny ended up 16th overall, out of 223 runners, with a time of 16:32.32.  The team ended up in 8th place out of 19 teams.

The official results can be found on finishtiming.com.  Results can also be found on the Granville Aces Cross Country Web site.

I did take some video from the race and the post race ceremonies.

Tiffin Cross Country Carnival

The weather in Tiffin today was almost ideal with temps at 67 degrees and the wind at 17 mph.  It was over a two hour drive each way to Tiffin, which it about 25 miles east of Findlay.  The boys had to run the first 800 meters very hard to get to the first tight turn on the coarse and be near the front of the pack of over 300 runners to avoid the log jam at the turn.  The course was spread out and we were unable to cross certain sections of the course, so we only got to see them a few times.  Granville Boys finished 11th out of 45 Division I-A varsity teams.  Jonny finished in 16:24.39 which was 33rd place out of the 304 runners and only 1 second off his personal best time.

According to MileSplit.com, Jonny is currently the 932nd fastest high school runner in the nation.  For the state of Ohio he is currently ranked 102nd overall and 32nd for all Juniors in Ohio

The official results can be found on here on the finishtiming.com site, or on the Granville Aces Cross Country Database.

I did get a little video of Jonny in the race shown here.

Granville Invitational

Jonny ran at the Granville Invitational today held at the Byn Du Mansion here in Granville.  It’s the first meet of the year for Granville and the only meet that Granville hosts.  The conditions today were not ideal for the runners and it was hot and humid with the temps at the start of the race 78 degrees and quickly rising and the humidity at 86%.  Jonny’s race started at 10:00 and was the last of the high school races.

He had a good start and kept himself in the front third for the first kilometer.  He then broke out with the front runners around the 3K mark.  When we saw the group again after running around the mansion and big hill on the back side the front group separated, and Jonny was still in the top 10.  He ended up finishing 9th overall out of 113 varsity runners with a time of 16:40, which beat last years time of 16:52.

The official results can be found on Baumspage.  Results can also be view from the Granville Running Database.

Here is some video of Jonny during the race.

Stephanie turns 19 today!

Stephanie turns 19 today.  Nikki and I took her, Marcus and Ashley out shopping and to dinner at FlipSide for hamburgers yesterday.  We also picked up an office chair for her room for her birthday as well.  We also ordered her a backpack a couple of days ago, but that won’t be delivered until next week.

Happy Birthday Stephanie!!

Stephanie Moves Out

Stephanie is preparing for her Sophomore year at OSU and is moving in with Ashley today into the apartment.  She has been preparing her room for several weekends now patching, painting slowly moving things in and hanging things on the wall.  Her and Nikki moved her bed today and the last of the things she needed.  Ashley and Stephanie have assembled her bed and Shane was able to help Ashley and Stephanie carry the mattress upstairs to the bedroom and she is spending her first night as a renter in the apartment!

Stephanie fosters kittens

Stephanie volunteered to foster kittens from the Licking Country Humane Society. She was asked to take 4 kittens for a week or two to get them up to a proper weight for their age before they can be adopted.

The dogs find the kittens very entertaining and follow them around and try to keep track of all of them.  The dogs are very good with them, but still need to be supervised with them.  Not because they want to do them any harm, but they tend to get excited when the kittens are very active and can’t stand still and have almost stepped on them a couple of times because they are not paying attention.

Central District Meet – Day 2 – May 20, 2015

The Central District Meet is held at Hilliard Darby High School.  The first day is dedicated to field events and Jonny did not participate in the first day.  The second day of the event the preliminaries are run.  Jonny was scheduled to run the 4×800 Meter Relay, which is one of the few finals that were run.  He was also scheduled to run the 800 Meter Run preliminary where he needed to be one of the top 8 in his heat to make it to the finals on Saturday.  The last race he ran was the 4×400 Meter Relay preliminary.  The top 8 times in the 4×400 prelims will run in the finals on Saturday as well.

In the 4×800 finals the boys finished in 8:09.15 and were edged out for the 4th place finish.  Jonny ran the 2nd leg in 2:01.1.

The 800 Meter Run Preliminaries, Jonny ran a very conservative 2:06.94, his slowest 800 time of the season.  He still ended up winning the preliminary heat he was in and advanced on the to finals for Saturday.

The 4×400 Relay Preliminaries were the final event of the evening.  The boys finished the race 3rd in their heat with a time of 3:32.36 which was 5th overall and qualified them for the finals on Saturday.  Jonny ran the final leg in 55.2 seconds and looked tired from the previous two races as he was passed and by one runner and never recovered and come in a distant 3rd, which is very unusual for Jonny as he is normally very competitive.
